The Wierda Family Farm
When Fannie (Brouwer) Wierda was born in 1914, her family was already farming the land along Camp Creek. Harold Wierda’s family would arrive ten years later and from that point, Camp Creek just north of the historic town of Anceney, was home to them. The grandchildren of Harold and Fannie (married in 1934) are the fourth generation roaming the wheatfields, taking in the views, hunting, and riding on the farm. It is not certain when Fannie’s family settled on Camp Creek but it is safe to say this land has been loved by the family for at least 97 years.
Originally over 1000 acres, the Wierda family farm was plowed, cultivated, harrowed, seeded, and harvested with the help of 16 horses. It wasn’t until 1939 that the tractors and combines took over for Dolly, Victor, and the rest of the hard working herd. The horses retired and the tractors took to the fields before there was electricity (1945), running water (1943), or even an indoor bathroom (1951) on the farm.
The fields still bare the names they were given generations ago. The “90 Field” is the wheat field to the west of Camp Creek Road. No one seems to remember why its called that; but the rolling 168 acre field has amazing views, backs up to a large ranch to the west and has an amazing home site. This parcel could easily accommodate a private landing strip as well. This parcel is referred to as Parcel 1 and is offered as part of the 650 acre farm or as a stand alone purchase.
Just to the east is the “Stocking Field,” Grandma and Grandpa’s apple tree, and the bulk of the farms acreage. At approximately 400 acres this central part of the farm is a mix of wheat fields, green pasture and cedar draws. Large herds of deer and other wildlife call this area home. Numerous home sites that feature secluded draw settings, or panoramic views of 6 different mountain ranges, make this a special place. This portion of the farm is referred to as Parcel 2 and can be purchased separately or together with the other parcels.
Parcel 3, the final piece of the 650 acre farm, is 68 acres which can be accessed from Wierda Way or through Parcel 2. This “Winter Horse Pasture” is where Dolly and Victor spent the off season. This parcel features an elevated home site that looks over the entire farm. As with the other parcels this can be purchased separately or as part of the whole. The Wierda Family Farm is as rich with nature and beauty as it is with history. This is a truly unique offering.
